So I’ve been looking for a good subscription box for quite a while now, I know there are loads of them out there but I couldn’t find one that was perfect for me.
This is when I discovered A Book and a Brew.
It’s a delightful box that costs £14.99 for a one off box or £12.99 for the monthly subscription. I loved the idea and especially like that you can see the books from previous months so if you feel you have missed out you can still go out and buy the book from your local bookshop.
As a little disclaimer on their website they do apologise that they don’t know your book collection so you may accidentally (at no fault of their own) get a duplicate book.
Anywhoo, I got the one off box so I could see if it was something I wanted to continue, if I’m honest I would say it was a little bit pricey for what you actually get, however it was still a lovely one off.
In my box for September I got Jim Crace’s Harvest and Teapigs Super Fruit.
Harvest – Jim Crace –
As late summer steals in and the final pearls of barley are gleaned, a village comes under threat. A trio of outsiders – two men and a dangerously magnetic woman – arrives on the woodland borders and puts up a makeshift camp. That same night, the local house is set on fire.
Over the course of 7 days, Walter Thirsk sees his hamlet unmade: the harvest blackened by smoke and fear, the new arrivals cruelly punished, and his neighbours held captive on suspicion of witchcraft. But something even darker is at the heart of his story…
I’m excited to read the book as it sounds completely different to anything I have bought before, and I’m intrigued.
Teapigs Super Fruit –
“Containing real whole berries to give a fruit tea that packs a super fruity punch! These ingredients are great little super foods so as well as a great tasting cuppa, you get a health kick too!”
As for the tea, I must say I was not a fan of this at all and I absolutely LOVE tea. However it looked like hot Ribena and tasted like artificial fruit, more hot flavoured water than tea…
The packaging was super cute and it arrived really quickly J
I’m not sure if I will be buying it every month simply because it’s a little expensive but I’ll look into something very similar.
If you have a box you want me to try out or if you have any suggestions let me know! Also keep an eye out for my review of Harvest.
Lucy.
