On the 9th of December the Royal Albert Hall played host to the Philharmonia Orchestra
with Disney in Concert: Beauty and the Beast.
It was breathtaking. From the minute the orchestra filled the stage for the European premiere of the film as a live concert experience the audience was transfixed on them.
The Philharmonia were skilfully conducted by David Firman and were joined on stage by the English Chamber Choir.
Hearing the live orchestra play the introduction music for Beauty and the Beast truly lived up to the magic of Disney.
The original singing and talking parts of the film were kept but the backing to it and the songs were performed live by the orchestra. Including the most popular ones ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Be Our Guest’.
The whole night was split in two with an interval at the perfect point in the film and it gave the night a more theatrical feel to it.
To the end of the show the Philharmonia Orchestra accompanied the final track of the film, ‘How Does a Moment Last Forever’ sung by the ever talented Celine Dion, while the end slides were rolling.
It was a magical night and I can only hope that the Royal Albert Hall will continue to do these more diverse nights in their upcoming events calendar.
