This book is breathtaking and is so easy to fall in love with. Once you pick it up you know you won’t want to put it down again.
It is funny and moving at the same time with oodles of romance, giggles and glamour.
Lily is the heroine of the book, her character is instantly likeable, intriguing and inviting to the audience. Lily’s mother died when she was young, leaving her in the care of Coral and Nick her mothers oldest friends.
Two years before the book is set Nick sadly passes away leaving 23 year old Lily and adoptive Mum coral heartbroken but stronger and closer than ever. Lily’s best friends Dan and Patsy (her old baby sitter) are also main characters, Patsy the classic friend who has trouble with love and Dan who is the serial dater who is hiding he true feelings for someone close to him.
Every year on Lily’s birthday she receives a letter from her mum from before she dies, this idea is quite like P.S. I love you but has a deeper meaningful message as it’s between a mother and her daughter. Lily likes to read the letters in private and then share them with her new family so she can have more time with her mums words. In the last letter Lily receives on her 25th birthday her mum reveals the full name of her one true love and Lily makes it her mission to find this man and try to learn more about her mother.
Although primarily a story focussed on Lily finding her way in life, we as readers get to witness so many other dynamics and relationships. Observing the world through different eyes and minds throughout the book, we begin to see the paths of each heart-warming character intertwine time and time again until their relationships and feelings emanate from the pages and into our hearts. Although I predicted some of the relationships that were yet to form, I enjoyed watching them unfold page by page nonetheless, and I became ultimately obsessed with each characters endgame.
Filled with laughter and tears, friendship and love, You and Me, Always is an uplifting tale filled with soul stirring characters that is perfect for travelling the countryside, all whilst sat on your sofa.
*WARNING – do NOT read the ending in public you WILL cry and you WILL get embarrassed…
