The fifth book in the series of ‘big read’ is Radio Sunrise by Anietie Isong, months after reading this novel, I’m still not sure if I enjoyed it or not…
This is a classic story of a power struggle between the government and journalists.
Young journalist Ifiok is working for the government run radio station ‘Radio Sunrise’ set in Lagos (Nigeria). We see the struggle of Ifiok having his funding pulled for his documentary ‘The River’, his girlfriend leaving him because she found out he was cheating on her with an intern and militancy is on an all time high in the country.
With wise words from his colleague we see Ifiok go from strength to strength in the book, running into real issues that journalists have to face in today’s society.
Radio Sunrise paints a satirical portrait of post-colonial Nigeria that builds on the legacy of the great African satirist.

I stumbled upon your blog but the premise of this book really interests me and I like the way you set up the image of the book with your notebooks and laptop. Great review and I look forward to reading more!
