84 Charing Cross Road *photo set*

Walking through the streets of London you know you are bound to stumble upon an iconic location and a piece of British history.

For the most part these are easy to see and you know exactly what they are and where they’re from.

Some of you eagle-eyed readers will have been walking down famous Charing Cross Road and you will have known that it was the place that the story of 84 Charing Cross Road was set (and the real Marks & Co. book shop). You may have even watched the film and realised exactly where it was.

However, now when it comes to trying to find the iconic location, we were more than a little upset that the Marks & Co bookshop has since gone out of business and has been replaced with a huge McDonalds.Charing Cross Road 1

The only saving grace is the plaque that is on the wall commemorating the world renowned book sellers.

As upsetting as it is, this happens with a lot of filming locations in the city (obviously other than the one’s filmed in a stage which will be stripped after filming is finished).

Another big one is Guy Ritchie’s 1998 heist comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The location of Eddie’s dad’s bar Vic Naylor has been confined to just the silver-screen now as the Central London pub has been transformed into a Burger & Lobster.

So much for iconic British locations eh?!
