We Love Disney – Review – Various Artists

With such songs as I Wan’na Be Like You, A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes and Zero to Hero, We Love Disney as an album is a wonderful twist on some true classics.

So I heard that a new album of Disney songs was coming out and I wasn’t expecting much from it but oh my god, it’s just brilliant.

We start with an amazing song covered by Neyo, ‘Friend Like Me’ – now, the original song (sung by Robin Williams) is a corker of a song, but the cover is a little jazzier and is in my top 3 favourites of the album, it will make you have a bit of a jig.

Next up is Jessie J’s cover of the Little Mermaid’s ‘Part of Your World’, this is a great one for Jessie J’s voice, and she really compliments the song brilliantly.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Rainbow Connection and Zero to Hero are the next few songs on the album, they’re good additions to the album.

I’ve never heard of Jhene Aiko however, her voice is enchanting, her rendition of In a World of My Own/Very Good Advice from Alice in Wonderland is amazing, go check it out now… (Also, Alice in Wonderland? What a film!)

You want to make Disney rocky?

Add a dash of Fall Out Boy and you’ll do great! Their track for the album is Jungle Books I Wan’na Be Like You. It’s so refreshing for the middle of the album; it seemed to lag a little before this song.

My least favourite song is next, Tori Kelly does a cover of Colour of The Wind from Pocahontas, I don’t like the film so the song just doesn’t do it for me.

A Spoon Full of Sugar with a country twang?! What is this!? Pretty darn fun actually… You can’t help but bob along to this song when you hear it, plus it’ll make you giggle when you try and think of Julie Andrews singing the song with a Texan accent.

The track that wins the album – for me – is Charles Perry’s Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat, I can’t even explain it, I just could listen to this song on repeat, I could listen to Perry’s 20’s esque jazzy voice all day long.

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes and Let it go are the next tracks on the album, sung by Jessie Ware and Lucy Hale & Rascal Flatts, these tracks make you realise that even at 20, it’s cool to listen to Disney…

To be honest, the next song holds some bad bad memories for me. When I went to Disney Land I was dragged on one ride, hundreds and hundreds of times by my family and the sound track was one song that was repeated on and on and on again, any guesses to what it is?

It’s a Small World… Compared to the amount of times I’ve listened to the album, I always skip this one, so I think it’s been once… However, the whole cast of artists sing on this song.

It’s Not that Easy Being Green is next on the album, sung by Brenna Whitaker, it’s the second Muppets song on the record, it’s a bit of a weak penultimate song if I’m being totally honest with you, I find her tone of voice boring.

However, We Love Disney finishes off with a totally different rendition of I Wan’na Be Like You, it’s by Robbie Williams and Olly Murs, this version sounds more like the Jungle Book original, they sing so brilliantly together (so many X-Factor memories…).

You can listen to the album on Spotify or buy it here.
